In the age of fitness mania, we are being advised by health experts and doctors to eat foods that are believed to be the best natural way of reducing illnesses such as cancer and heart disease. The best thing is that these superfoods are all available at your local supermarket! By including some of these foods to your diet, your health will be improved greatly, and are fun to snack on whenever you are feeling peckish.

Blueberries

Blueberries are a super food because of the antioxidants they contain. These help combat against certain cancers, heart disease, cataracts, and age-related neurological illnesses. As well as containing age-defying antioxidants, they are also a great source of fibre – helping the gut. An additional perk of consuming blueberries is that they help keep your skin looking younger for longer since they help the body make collagen.

Broccoli

Though it may not be everyone’s favourite, broccoli is filled with essential vitamins including beta-carotene, fibre, magnesium and folic acid. Eating oats daily as part of a balanced diet is ideal because it is very high in fibre and helps those who are diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), where the gut is irritated by substances such as dairy. Soy beans are very highly recommended for a few reasons. They are packed with all the essentials such as protein, fibre and omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Fatty acids of this type are vital for maintaining a normal metabolism. Soy beans are also low in saturated fats and are the only plant-based protein with all the essential amino acids. They too have antioxidant properties.

Walnuts

These particular nuts are the best for your health, because they contain a high level of antioxidants – much healthier than pistachios, peanuts and almonds.
